Machining a keyway on an end milling machine with a standard straight shank keyway cutter tends to exceed the tolerance requirements from the upper limit. To this end, our factory adopts the method of grinding the circular edge of the knife to meet the requirements of machining the keyway. Specific measures are outlined as follows:
1. The milling cutter is installed on the end milling machine, so that the runout of the milling cutter edge to the spindle center line is adjusted to within 0.02 mm.
2. Install a piece of cast iron (HT15-33) on the workbench, mill a cylindrical hole with a depth of h+3 mm on the cast iron at a speed of 350-450 RPM (h is the depth of the keyway), and then withdraw the milling cutter to remove the debris in the hole.
3. Inject appropriate amount of kerosene and a little 200 mesh silicon carbide powder into the hole, adjust it into paste shape, and apply a little powder on the circumference of the milling cutter.
4. The milling cutter spindle is reversed, the speed is 200 RPM, and the depth in the insertion hole is h+2 mm.
